Gummy Smile Treatment

Gummy smile treatment with Anti-wrinkle injections is an alternative to the more traditional gummy smile treatments e.g.
1. Jaw surgery under general anaesthetic.
2. Gum surgery (involving gum and often bone removal).
3. Long term orthodontic treatment to intrude the teeth into the upper jaw.
Whilst the above options are permanent in comparison to the 3-6 month temporary nature of anti-wrinkle injections, all of them require extensive commitment, often extensive cost and carry a higher risk.
Anti-wrinkle injections for gummy smile require just 2-4 injections above the top lip to relax the muscles that are overworking to maintain the gummy smile. It takes about 2 weeks to show its full affect and really can be life changing. It will typically last 3-6 months at which point it can be redone.
Summary of treatment
1. Full assessment and treatment planning including before photos
2. At treatment appointment reconfirm planned treatment and apply numbing gel to area to be treated
3. After 5 minutes carry out series of planned injections
4. Review 2 weeks later and top up any areas if needed
5. Courtesy email at 3-6 months for repeat treatment if necessary.
Aftercare
1. Go home with post care package and get on with everyday life.
2. There is always a risk of bruising with any injection, if this happens apply pressure to the area for 3-5 minutes.
3. We will give you a courtesy call after 3 days to check you are getting on OK since your visit
4. We will review you at 2-3 weeks to assess the final result and top up if necessary
5. You will receive a courtesy email at 3-6 months for retreatment
FAQs
1. Will it be painful? - the numbing gel that is placed on the area to be injected is very strong and very effective, clients typically report none to mild pain with this procedure and as it is a quick procedure clients tend to tolerate it extremely well.

2. Can I get this treatment on the NHS? No, there is no provision for this type of treatment on the NHS currently due to its cosmetic nature

3. Will I still be able to smile?- Yes, the treatment relaxes the muscles that bring the top lip up but it does not relax them fully and there are lots of other muscles involved in smiling that are unaffected. Often the reason for the gummy smile is that the muscles pulling the top lip up are hyperactive anyway i.e. pulling the lip up with a stronger force than what they should do naturally.
